Greece Golden Visa Program: Upcoming Changes to Deposit Requirements

Important Update for Investors:

The Greek government is introducing changes to the Golden Visa program, specifically for options not related to real estate investments. These changes will take effect on March 31, 2024.

Key Changes:

  • Increased Minimum Investment Threshold: The minimum investment amount for the following options will increase from €400,000 to €500,000:
    • Purchase of shares in Greek companies listed on the Athens Stock Exchange.
    • Investment in shares of companies that invest exclusively in Greek real estate.
    • Purchase of units in closed-end investment funds of companies registered in Greece.
    • Purchase of Greek government bonds with a maturity of at least 3 years.
    • Purchase of units in a venture capital fund specializing in investments in shares and bonds.
    • Opening a deposit in a Greek bank.

Exception:

The minimum investment amount for alternative investment funds will decrease from €400,000 to €350,000.

Portfolio Option:

Investors who contribute at least €800,000 will still be able to create a portfolio of Greek shares, corporate bonds, and government bonds traded on Greek exchanges. There are no restrictions on the maturity of bonds in this case.
