In Turkey, it is possible to keep your car with foreign license plates for longer than two years, but this requires certain conditions and procedures. If you have a work permit, a student residence permit or are a pensioner, you can bring a car into Turkey on bail.
The official terms are as follows:
- You must have a work permit, student residence permit or pensioner status.
- The car must be registered in your name.
- At the time of importing the car and applying for a deposit, you must not be a resident of Turkey. Pensioners may not take this requirement into account. Non-resident means that you have spent less than 185 days in total in Turkey in the last 365 days.
- The age of the car does not matter at the moment.
- Both left-handed and right-handed vehicles can be used.
- You will be required to pay transport tax twice a year.
- You will be issued Turkish MA-MZ series numbers.

In addition to the above conditions, it is important to note that the car can remain in Turkey for as long as you have suitable documents and status. When you remove the car from the country, the deposit will be returned to you.
